5 Primary Suites That Elevate Everyday Living

These stunning bedrooms and bathrooms make waking up easy

Your primary bedroom and bathroom are arguably some of the most important spaces in your house—they are where you get ready for your day, and where you wind down and recharge at night. Don’t let your primary suite design become an afterthought—take cues from these five home projects that blend functional design with beautiful aesthetics to create everyday spaces that feel anything but ordinary.

Wake by the Lake

Designed as a serene, inviting space for the homeowners to find comfort at the end of a long day, this Lake Minnetonka primary suite from design-build team Kyle Hunt & Partners, Sharratt Design & Co., and Darsi Floersch Interiors, is defined by light, views, and thoughtful details. Expansive windows frame the pool and lake, while a plaster-and-stone fireplace exudes cozy warmth. Unique soffit ceilings and textured wall treatments bring bouts of flair to the space. Also included are his-and-her bathrooms, which boast spa-like details and flow into separate closets and dressing spaces—the definition of pure luxury.

Industrial Sophistication

This primary suite from Leona Rose Interiors deftly balances drama and approachability. The bedroom features a custom platform bed anchored by a striking feature wall made from wood harvested on-site, while industrial-inspired elements—such as vintage metal shop sconces and leather bedside chests with contrast stitching—introduce an edgy sensibility. This refined balance of textures and tones continues into the adjoining bath, where a custom metal shower enclosure and concrete slab shower walls offer a bold, modern aesthetic, and warm rift-sawn oak cabinetry and dramatic concrete countertops echo the room’s earthy palette while adding contemporary sophistication.

Natural Oasis

This serene primary suite from Sustainable 9 Design + Build and Unfold Architecture is designed as a true retreat. Vertically grain-matched walnut cabinetry and millwork extend from the bedroom into the bathroom, while large-format porcelain panels wrap the fireplace and shower to create a cohesive, spa-like experience. Locally sourced elm flooring adds a grounding natural texture throughout and expansive triple-pane windows frame treetop views of the Mississippi River, bringing in abundant natural light while offering sound insulation and energy efficiency. The suite also features a private roof deck connecting the suite to its serene surroundings, solidifying the indoor-outdoor connection.

Traditional Elegance

This primary suite from Talley Jane Interiors embodies serene sophistication with its blend of classic detailing and subtle elegance. Creamy white enamel on the once-dark beams softens contrast and highlights the vaulted ceiling and dramatic stone fireplace. A pass-through hallway lined with built-in cabinetry leads to the bathroom, where curved stone detailing flanks the vanity and meets with the tall backsplash. Complete with refined finishes and a timeless design, this project is proof that structure and softness can coexist beautifully.

Timeless Sanctuary

Situated on the first floor of a forever home in Maple Plain, this primary suite is a shining example of where classic style and modern comfort meet. The design-build team, Gabriela Laboy for O’Hara Interiors and Haven Homes, defined the space with a vaulted ceiling and walls finished in gray lime wash and emphasized symmetry with matching elongated windows, solid acacia nightstands, and aged brass sconces on either side of the bed. Botanical print bedding and sage accents connect the interior to the prairie outside the home’s doors. The ensuite bath is a light-filled, restorative haven, featuring reeded vanities, arched mirrors, a freestanding tub, and statement chandelier. It all combines for a true sanctuary for a couple to enjoy for decades to come.
